Thermal Downlight Cover Tests

Thermal images highlight the efficiency benefits of the Halogen Mitt and LED Mitt Downlight covers compared to a conventional install with a plastic downlight cover.  Most plastic downlight covers out theredo a great job at stopping draughts, but they are designed to leak heat into the loft area.  There are no insulative benefits and downlights are still a serious point of failure where losses in heating and cooling occur.  All the Efficiency Matrix Downlight covers focus on weak points in your insulation.

Conventional downlights work by ventilating into the ceiling while producing light and heat in the living area, this creates a convection current, sucking heat out of your living area and into the roof.

“Plastic downlight covers reduce the effect but the Downlight Mitt stops the convection current in its tracks.”

Temperatures of the Efficiency Matrix 35W lamp installed with downlight Mitt VS Plastic cover for 1 hour.  The temperatures of the lamp and fitting are roughly equal.
