Thermal Downlight Cover Tests
Thermal images highlight the efficiency benefits of the Halogen Mitt and LED Mitt Downlight covers compared to a conventional install with a plastic downlight cover. Most plastic downlight covers out theredo a great job at stopping draughts, but they are designed to leak heat into the loft area. There are no insulative benefits and downlights are still a serious point of failure where losses in heating and cooling occur. Conventional downlights work by ventilating into the ceiling while producing light and heat in the living area, this creates a convection current, sucking heat out of your living area and into the roof.

Temperatures of the Efficiency Matrix 35W lamp installed with downlight Mitt VS Plastic cover for 1 hour. The temperatures of the lamp and fitting are roughly equal.
