Fire Rated vs Fire Retardant

New Quality products for fire rated applications in the building industry.  Sometimes the building code requires products to have a fire rating.

The difference between Fire Rated vs fire retardant/fire resistant?

  • A fire rated product is a product which has been certified to contain a fire for a given period (30min-60min-90min-120min)
  • A Fire retardant material, is a difficult substance to burn and does not fuel or propagate a fire.

Standard halogen dichroic lamps are capable of running at 350˚ C, so it’s critical that these types of fittings are safely covered with a fire rated or fire retardant material as opposed to reduce the risk of a fire starting.

Fire rating is a better quality product but becomes extremely necessary for multi-dwelling apartments/townhouses and commercial fit outs.
